My research mainly concerns studies on the nomenclature, taxonomy and zoogeography of the worldwide living scallops (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Pectinoidea). A major focus of my research has been to determine the identity and relationships of bathyal pectinoideans, particularly those sampled by French cruises to the tropical Indo-Pacific.

Second interest is in historical malacology, which resulted in publications on type material described by Linnaeus (1758-1771), Lamarck (1819) and Born (1778-1780), and the collation of the three editions of Knorr (1757-1775), together with the pectinids figured in Knorr.
