Shell up to c. 80 mm high, moderately inflated, acline or slightly prosocline, almost equally convex, left valve somewhat more convex than right valve, slightly circular, inequivalve, nearly equilateral, auricles unequal in shape and size, umbonal angle 93-104 degrees, colour red, orange-red, orange or yellowish with whitish maculations.
Both valves with radial plicae (lv 3 major + 2 minor laterally, rv 4 major), some scales on plicae of left valve, lacking on right valve, radial riblets on plicae and in interspaces near ventral margin. Commarginal microsculpture throughout. Byssal notch weak, byssal fasciole narrow. Functional ctenolium on suture (3-5 teeth). Internal rib plicae, delicate carinated near ventral margin.
