Type data   Lectotype (pr: H 56.0 mm, L 51.1 mm, D 21.1 mm) Zoological Museum University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen (ZMUC BIV 29), designated by Yaron, Schiøtte & Wium-Andersen (1986: 181, fig. 22). Type locality: Suez, Gulf of Suez, Egypt.
Description

  Shell up to c. 60 mm high, solid, weakly inflated, nearly equiconvex, subcircular (juveniles), more elongate (adults), almost equivalve and equilateral, auricles unequal, umbonal angle c. 85-90*, colour variable, milky white with white, orange, red or brown maculations or patches, right valve somewhat paler.

  Both valves sculptured with 7-10 primary radial lirae with delicate commarginally raised ridges (rarely scaled), 3-4 radial riblets in interspaces with weak erect scales, . Byssal notch moderately shallow, byssal fasciole narrow. Functional ctenolium on suture with c. 6 teeth.

Habitat  Living (sub)littorally amongst coral and coral debris on a sandy bottom.
