| Description | Shell up to ca. 70 mm high, weakly inflated, circular (immature) to slightly elongate (mature), inequivalve, subequilateral, auricles unequal, umbonal angle ca. 90 degrees, colour pale red with dark red blotches on left valve, right valve paler, yellowish near auricular margins. Both valves sculptured with 5-6 radial lirae, widely spaced prominent scales on lirae of left valve, more closely spaced and smaller on lirae of right valve. Delicate commarginal lamellae in interspaces and on auricles. Auricles with a few rdial riblets near hinge. Byssal notch shallow, byssal fasciole broad. Functional ctenolium on suture present with ca. 6 teeth. Internal plicae. |
